The short version

SENTINEL collects the minimum needed to run the site, bill Pro subscribers, fund operations through advertising on the magazine pages, and stop abuse. We do not sell your data and we do not share it with data brokers. We do use Google services for sign-in, analytics, advertising, and consent collection, and we use Stripe for billing. Discord linkage is optional and only happens if you opt in.

What we collect, and why

  • Email address. Captured when you sign in via Google. Used to identify your account, run subscription checks, and send the daily digest if you opt in. Stored in our session and webhook persistence files.
  • Subscription state. Stripe holds your payment details; we hold a customer ID + subscription status flag returned by Stripe. We never see your card.
  • Presence pings. When the site is open in your browser, your tab heartbeats once a minute so we can show a live user count. Bucketed to a 20-minute activity window; the raw timeline is not retained.
  • Anti-abuse telemetry. Per-IP rate-limit counters, scrape-pattern detection, and crash-report payloads (browser version, error stack). Used to keep the site from being knocked over; never sold or shared.
  • Discord linkage (optional). Only if you click 'Link my account' in our Discord. We store the mapping between your sign-in email and your Discord user ID so the @Pro role tracks your subscription state.
  • Geofence prefs and saved views. When you opt in to alerting on specific regions or save a layer/zoom combination. Stored against your account email.
  • Google Analytics (GA4). Anonymized usage analytics on every page so we can see which surfaces visitors actually use and prioritize work accordingly. Records page paths, referrers, approximate location at country level, device type, and aggregate session behavior. For visitors in the EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland, all analytics collection is gated behind explicit consent via the on-page banner; outside those regions, analytics start immediately. We never upload your account email to Google Analytics.
  • Google AdSense. Display advertising appears on the magazine pages at axonia.us (country dossiers, topic explainers, daily SITREP, glossary, posture, cyber, current events, launches). Ads do not appear on the interactive globe at sentinel.axonia.us/, the landing at axonia.us/, or in any account, billing, or admin surface. AdSense may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads relevant to you when you have consented (or where consent is not legally required). Where you are in the EU, EEA, UK, or Switzerland, ad personalisation is gated behind the on-page consent banner.
  • Funding Choices consent banner (Google CMP). A consent management platform that shows a one-time consent banner to visitors in the EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland and records the choice locally so we can pass the right consent signals to Google Analytics and AdSense. Stored as a small entry in your browser; not tied to your account.

What we don't do

  • We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it with data brokers.
  • We do not run third-party retargeting pixels, behavioral ad networks beyond Google AdSense on the magazine surface, or any tracker outside the Google services explicitly listed above.
  • We do not see your password. Sign-in is delegated to Google.
  • We do not collect device fingerprints beyond what your browser sends in a normal HTTP request.
  • We do not see the content of anything you post in our Discord beyond what Discord itself stores.

Third parties

  • Google (sign-in). OAuth sign-in. Receives only the standard ID-token request when you click Sign In. Google's privacy terms apply to that exchange.
  • Google Analytics. GA4 measurement on every page. Subject to Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy. Consent Mode v2 is implemented site-wide; for EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland visitors, no analytics data is sent to Google until consent is granted via the on-page banner.
  • Google AdSense. Display advertising on the magazine editorial pages at axonia.us. Subject to Google's advertising privacy policy. EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland visitors see the consent banner before ad personalization is enabled.
  • Google Funding Choices (CMP). The consent management platform that powers the banner described above. Operated by Google as part of AdSense.
  • Stripe. Pro subscriptions. Stripe holds your card and transaction history; we hold their customer ID and an active/inactive flag.
  • Discord. Only if you choose to join the community server and link your account. Discord's own privacy policy governs anything that happens inside their app.
  • Cloudflare. Network edge: TLS termination, caching of public API routes, rate-limit gates. Standard HTTP request logs.
  • Public OSINT feeds. OpenSky, FlightRadar24, AirLabs, OpenStreetMap, Wikidata, FIRMS, GDACS, USGS, IMF, World Bank, and the news / X / Telegram sources visible on the site. We pull data from them; they receive no data about you.

Cookies and similar technologies

  • An authentication cookie that recognises you as signed-in after you click Sign In. Expires when your session ends.
  • A small splash-bypass cookie set when you click "Enter the live globe", so the splash doesn't show on return visits. No personal data.
  • Standard edge-network cookies set automatically by Cloudflare for bot detection and DDoS protection.
  • Google Analytics cookies (typically _ga, _ga_*) on every page. For EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland visitors these are blocked until consent is granted via the banner.
  • Google AdSense cookies on the magazine pages at axonia.us when ads are served. For EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland visitors these are blocked until consent is granted.
  • A Funding Choices consent record stored locally in your browser, so the banner does not re-prompt on every visit.

How long we keep data

  • Account email + subscription state: as long as your account exists.
  • Presence pings: aggregated into a sliding 20-minute window; raw entries discarded.
  • Crash reports + anti-abuse counters: 30 days.
  • Daily digest send history: 90 days for delivery diagnostics.
  • Discord linkage: until you ask us to unlink, or until your account is deleted.
  • The OSINT data on the globe (signals, patterns, etc.) is not your data; we keep it as long as it's useful for operations.

Your controls

  • Delete your account. Email [email protected] from the address on the account. We delete within 7 days, including any Discord linkage.
  • Cancel Pro. The MANAGE button in the SENTINEL header opens Stripe's billing portal. Cancel any time; access continues until the period you paid for ends.
  • Stop the daily digest. Account → email preferences, or the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any digest.
  • Export your data. Same email contact above; we ship a JSON of everything we hold against your email.
  • Manage analytics and ads consent. If you are in the EU, EEA, UK, or Switzerland, the on-page banner remembers your choice for about a year. To change it, clear the consent record in your browser's site data for sentinel.axonia.us and the banner will re-prompt on next page load. Outside those regions, you can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout) or by enabling Do Not Track / GPC in your browser; we will honor the GPC signal site-wide.

Children

SENTINEL is for adults. Anyone under 18 found to be using the site will be permanently banned.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy as the site changes. Material changes are noted in the in-site changelog and dated at the top of this page. The full revision history lives in our public Git repository.
